Imetha water and sanitation company was incorporated on 31st march 2006 under the the companies act. (cap 486) IMETHAWASCO was contracted by Tana Water services on 2nd may 2006, in line with the water act 2002. The company manages seven (7) water suppliers previous manned by the ministry of water and irrigation namely; Timau, Tigania, Maua, Kanyakine, Nkubu, Mwimbi, and Mitunguu. These schemes are located in Meru central, Meru north and Tharaka districts.
IMETHAWASCO is a water service provider appointed by Tana Water Services Board to supply high quality, reliable, affordable and sustainable water in line with recommended drinking water standards. This is achieved through the planning and development of contracted water supply schemes.
The Board of Directors is responsible for effective planning and developing of capital works, operating and maintaining existing assets to provide sustainable water and in an economic manner
IMETHAWASCO management and Board of Directors jointly own and share responsibility of water supplies headworks, treatment works and raw and treated water mains, distribution, service lines, storage structures, hydraulic devices, water kiosks and associated fillings including allied water appurtenances. The Board of Directors is therefore responsible for the day to day operation, maintenance, rehabilitation, extension and other improvement works.
